Endeavour Awards for international applicants

Through the Endeavour Awards, the Australian Government provides opportunities for high achieving international students, researchers and professionals to undertake short or long term study, research and professional development in Australia in a broad range of disciplines.
The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide financial support for international students for up to 3 years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.

Total Award Value: up to $173,500
Award Duration: Up to 2 years for a Masters
Up to 3 years for a PhD

The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards aim to:

* enable high achieving international students to undertake a postgraduate qualification either by coursework or research in their chosen field of study in Australia
* strengthen bilateral ties between Australia and the participating countries
* showcase Australia’s education sector
* strengthen mutual understanding between the people of Australia and Award Holders’ home countries
* build international linkages and networks.

18 PhD Fellowships at Graduate School of Life Science Wuerzburg

Würzburg is one of the leading German Universities in the Life Sciences based on funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG Ranking 2009). Internationally renowned research centres such as the Biocenter, the Research Center for Infectious Diseases, and the DFG Research Center for Experimental Biomedicine (Rudolf Virchow Center) contribute to this standing.
The Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS) is directly linked to those research centers. It comprises about 240 doctoral students and runs research training groups in the following major sections:
Biomedicine | Infection and Immunity | Integrative Biology | Neuroscience | MD/PhD program (MDs only)

We offer

2. a personal fellowship, conference money and funding of research expenses for three years,
3. continuous supervision and mentoring by a thesis committee of three principal investigators,

4. eagerness to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

Masters by Research Scholarships in Nuclear Engineering and Shipping at Lancaster University

For the second year running the Engineering Department at Lancaster University in the UK is pleased to invite applications from excellent graduate engineers to study for Masters-by research qualifications.
This programme, sponsored by the Sir John Fisher Foundation, provides generous support to the most promising young engineers of their generation to complement their undergraduate degrees with a research-focussed MSc of the highest quality. The programme invites applications for up to four studentships based on engineering research projects in the nuclear engineering and/or shipping fields for a study period of twelve months, full-time. These research studentships are conducted in close collaboration with industry where possible.



To be eligible for consideration you must hold an upper-second degree in an Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering or related science-based discipline, or be able to demonstrate significant prior experiential learning in addition to your academic achievements. Industrial experience would be a significant advantage, especially in the industrial sectors of interest as would a demonstrable ability to pursue independent, academic research.

Advanced Power and Electricity Research Center in Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU) is seeking research assistants with competitive monthly stipends starting in January 2010/August 2010. The Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering has 33 tenure-track faculty members, 420 undergraduates, and 300 graduate students. The department offers BS degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Biometric Systems; offers Masters degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Electrical Engineering; and offers Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The Department conducts approximately $5.5 million annually in externally sponsored research, with major research activities in the areas of biometric systems, bioengineering, information assurance, nanotechnology, power systems, software engineering, virtual environments, and wireless networks. The department is aggressively upgrading its laboratory facilities, including a recently completed 4000 square foot clean room facility. PhD Positions in Nonlinear Nanoplasmonics, Canada


Two Ph.D. positions in nonlinear nanoplasmonics

Based in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Dalhousie University, Canada. Research in the interdisciplinary fields of nonlinear nanophotonics, nanoplasmonics and biophotonics.

The successful applicants will be involved in experimental study of linear and nonlinear optical
properties of metal nanostructures using near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM), optimization of composition/structure for enhancing optical nonlinearities, metal surface functionalization for developing biomedical interfaces for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes, ultrafast optical measurements with fs lasers, and theoretical modeling of linear and nonlinear properties of metal nanostructures.

The potential candidates are expected to have a solid background in optics, photonics, and nanotechnology; excellent experimental skills and willingness to pursue numerical modeling are required, some aptitude for theoretical analysis is a plus.

The work will require a close cross-departmental (electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, biology) as well as inter-institutional collaboration. Personal skills: we seek highly motivated, well-organized and creative individuals, capable of working under minimal supervision whenever required. A very competitive scholarship is offered.
